Nepal secured their second consecutive victory in the Top End T20 Series, defeating Melbourne Renegades Academy by 33 runs at Cazalys Arena in Palmerston, Northern Territory, on Wednesday.
Having beaten Hobart Hurricanes Academy by 66 runs on Tuesday, the Rhinos carried their winning momentum into the fixture against the Renegades.
Batting first after winning the toss, Nepal posted 139 for nine in their allotted 20 overs. Kushal Malla top-scored with 29 off 22 balls, hitting a four and a six. Dipendra Singh Airee contributed 27 from 28 deliveries, while Lokesh Bam added 24 from 16. Bhim Sharki made 17, and both Aarif Sheikh and Rupesh Singh chipped in with 12 runs each.
For the Renegades, Fergus O’Neill, Lachlan Bangs, Callum Stow and Michael Archer each picked up two wickets.
In reply, the Renegades failed to build momentum and were bundled out for 106 in 20 overs. Arjun Nair was the top scorer with 26 runs, followed by Jai Lamire with 18 and Harry Dixon with 16.
Nepal’s bowlers dominated the contest, with Sompal Kami producing a match-winning spell of five wickets. Kushal Bhurtel claimed two, while Rupesh Singh, Dipendra Singh Airee and Shahab Alam grabbed one apiece.
Earlier in the series, Nepal had lost three successive matches—against Northern Territory Strike, Bangladesh ‘A’ and Melbourne Stars Academy—before bouncing back with two wins.
The Rhinos will next face Pakistan Shaheens on Friday.
