Three new Nepali movies to watch this Dashain
‘Balidan’, ‘Maitighar’, and ‘Hari Bahadur Ko Jutta’ hit cinemas, marking Phulpati.
Post Report
On Phulpati, one of the most auspicious days of Dashain, three Nepali films—‘Balidan’, ‘Maitighar’, and ‘Hari Bahadur Ko Jutta’—were released.
Hari Bahadur Ko Jutta
A social comedy led by veteran actor Hari Bansha Acharya, the film revolves around a missing pair of shoes belonging to Hari Bahadur. Light-hearted yet socially conscious, it is expected to use humour and satire to address themes of class difference and everyday struggles.

Centred on a lost pair of shoes, the film uses humour and irony to shed light on class disparity and the everyday struggles of ordinary people. Directed by Dipendra K Khanal and written by Acharya himself, it features a strong cast including Swastima Khadka and Priyanka Karki.
Produced by Saroj Oli and Mohit Bansha Acharya under the SM Motion Pictures banner, the project began shooting in February 2025 at locations across Kavre and Kathmandu.
Maitighar
Promoted as an emotional family drama, ‘Maitighar’ tells the story of a daughter leaving her parental home. With its focus on sacrifice, attachment, and the emotional weight of tradition, the film is poised to connect with audiences who value stories of family and belonging.
Directed by Milan Tamang, the film features a strong cast, including Upasana Singh Thakuri, Prakash Saput, Kedar Ghimire, Dhiraj Magar, Shyamashree Sherpa, and others. It weaves a triangular love story set against the backdrop of the Tamang culture.

‘Maitighar’, written by Chandrakumar Dong with dialogues by Ramsharan Pathak, explores the idea that a daughter’s true home might be different from her birthplace. This story invites us to reflect on the meanings of family, belonging, and where we feel at home. Her “Maitighar” is more than just her birth home; it is where her sense of belonging lies.
The film is shot in the villages of Myagdi (Takam, Dharapani) and the Tatopani-Darbang areas. Its narrative combines family ties, cultural roots, romantic tensions, and social challenges.
Balidan
True to its title, which translates to “sacrifice,” Balidan is anticipated to present patriotic and social narratives. It follows a narrative centred on courage, devotion, and collective responsibility. The film features a dynamic ensemble cast, including Samir Bhatta, Saugat Malla, Reecha Sharma, and Santosh Sen, among others, and is produced and distributed by OSR Digital Nepal.

The story is expected to explore themes of sacrifice and social commitment, resonating with the spirit of Dashain.
The release of these three titles on such a symbolic day offers Nepali cinema-goers a festival blend of humour, sentiment, and patriotism, and expectations are running high for their box office performance.
