The East-West Highway has been blocked after floodwaters swept away a diversion road at Binayi River in Dumkibas in Nawalparasi East.
According to Superintendent of Police Yadav Dhakal of the District Police Office, Nawalparasi East, heavy rainfall on Friday afternoon triggered a flood in the river, which washed away the diversion.
The diversion was constructed around five months ago after a heavy truck collapsed the iron bridge over the river. Since then, vehicles have been using the alternative road slightly north of the original highway.
However, the diversion that was rebuilt just six days ago—after being swept away last week—has been washed away again by the swollen stream, disrupting traffic along the key highway.
